Anyway, I believe I picked Charmander, but it might have been Squirtle. I've played the game dozens of times, collected all the pokemon at least once with each starting pokemon (I did it twice with Bulbusaur).

I picked squirtle because a friend was going to give me the other two, and did. i had the guide before i played, and it spoiled me so badly that now gold/silver frustrates. i know, i suck.. but hey, the secret to those type of games is to keep at it; even a snail can finish the marathon eventually. then just dont delete the high score.
