Default Nintendo Won't Release New Video Game Console Until 2007

http://www.bluegoop.net/?m=show&id=284

OSAKA (Nikkei)--Nintendo Co. (7974.OK) has decided not to release a new video game console to follow its current GameCube for the time being, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported in its Tuesday edition

and it goes on it say this

The decision to withhold the release of a new console was made because while the game market is contracting and becoming more diverse, "customers are fully satisfied with the performance of the current model," President Satoru Iwata said.

Nintendo will continue in-house development of a new home-use game machine for release in the future, but for the next two or three years will add functions to the GameCube.

Now what do you guys think of this step? Could it mean more domination for Sony and Microsoft?

No, this will not Help Microsoft or Sony, mainly because Nintendo Gamecube has games that people love, that other consoles do not have.

Wow, if that is really true wow that's pretty nice I mean a company not actually forcing us to buy a new console soo freakin soon as the last one. I mean this news is like a step in the right direction the next step is to do what Sega was going to do for the Dreamcast 2 just buy add-ons (chipsets to add preformance and other goodies probably would be things like playing dvd's and whatnot) to your old console instead of buying a new one cheaper for both sides I'd say.

That's good for us, as Kai said, but I'm not sure how Nintendo will be able to deal. It's also strange, because not too long ago I saw a report saying that Nintendo plans to have their next console come out at/around the same time as Sony's next console, unlike what happened with PS2/Gamecube.
