Nintendo's Fate: Decided This Generation?
No Mario, no Zelda, no big franchises but then there was Luigi. When every person was coming into EB and playing Halo on the XBOX, then they look over and see Luigi's Mansion and SMB on the Cube. If Nintendo wants to go somewhere next gen they better fix that problem. No 15 year old teen is going to buy the Gamecube for Luigis Mansion and thats the truth.
The Gamecube has been picking up as of late, but it is a bit too late to do some serious damage even though they can hold on to the #2 spot.
I say some of those projects that aren't coming out for another year like Too Human and the next Zelda. Mario 128 and maybe another FF exclusive. Can anyone say ED2 and MP2??? Now what I am saying is that they should releease the new GC (Manatee) in mid 2005 with backwards compatability. That is very important. Then for launch they can release games like the New Zelda, Eternal Darkness 2, Metroid Prime 2 but along with that pack in the previous installments of these games from the Gamecube. This could go with Mario 128 and some of the other games too.
Sure Nintendo is dominating the younger market, but in the later years, younger and younger kids will want the gory type games.
And with the way parents are turning out now a days, they will allow them to have that. Thus meaning Nintendo's gotta start concentrating on creating more Mature games and expect the younger kids will get them also.
Nintendo's problem (in the US) is that NOA can't advertise their way out of a box. Gamecube is doing well everywhere else, but NOA thinks the US is filled with little kids with pockets full of cash. really, they are doing fine with GBA, but their Gamecube advertising is too little too soon. They need to get people actually interested in their games. Honestly if Nintendo wants to be competitive next generation, it better be smart enough to launch with Metriod, Zelda, and a new Mario. It better come out with all its guns blazing or it will be stuck behind once again. Timing is everything and nintendo simply lacked it this generation. You cannot start out weak and expect to come back later.
I mean, the GC's Fate has already been decided this gen. If they want to come out on top next gen I think that is what they need to do.
Quite simply, GameCube lacked the killer AAA game at launch which really hurt them. Xbox had Halo which made all the difference. Next generation I think its safe to say Nintendo will launch with a MASSIVE game. They won't make that mistake again.

You have to consider the media. Right now, the children are the norm of the consumers, however, more and more gamers every day (even at young ages) are beginning to like more mature franchises. Nintendo hasn't provided enough non-childish franchises to please the crowd.

There is absolutely no reason for them to fail...GCN is already doing WAY better than the n64 at its day in age, so i see GCN as a step up not a step down...

The title is all out of place, so I need a longer title for it to look good. Ok...

It would be crazy to release Metroid, Mario and Zelda for launch, like you said timing is everything...

But the point was that Nintendo did not have a strong lineup... this a main reason why they're not up to their higher standards.
