The Infamous is on a distinguished road
Default A Radical Thought about the NFL from the mind of The Infamous

I'm really starting to believe that the NFL is biased after watching that Giants-49ers game and hearing the reactions. And you might be surprised, but I think the NFL is partial towards the New York teams, seeing as their front offices are located in New York. There have been many other close calls, others much worse than what went down on the last play of the Niners-Giants game. I'll give you two examples.

The first comes in a game in the 2001 season between the Cleveland Browns and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The refs challenged a play that shouldn't have been challenged because the ball had already been snapped for the next play. This costs the Cleveland Browns the game because it was a fourth down play that was being challenged. It was an absolutely HORRIBLE call made by the refs. But guess what? The front office doesn't say jack about the call and just move on as if nothing happened, even though it undoubtedly screwed the Browns remote chances of making it into the playoffs.

The second of course comes in the Divisional playoffs between the Patriots and the Raiders. Now I'm not going to go into another 1,575 word bitchfest like I did last time about the call, but there was no indisputible evidence to change the call, Walt Coleman un-did a right call to make a bad one, and the rest is history. Even though it was clearly the wrong call, the league even has the f*cking nuts to say that good ole Walt made the right call. And yes, I know what it says in the rule book, and even what it says in the rule book doesnt do justice to the call that was made. So since it was so freakin contreversial, you think the NFL would make an amendment to that rule: fat chance. The rule stands.

Now lets move on to the Giants-49ers game. Sure, the wrong call was made, and yes, I was upset that the Niners won. But then all of a sudden, the front office says that there should have been off-setting penalties and the Giants should have received another FG attempt. Since it is a New York team, the front office is acting as if its the end of the F*CKING world and that the Giants would have surely won the game. Well even if the Giants had another shot, it isn't a given that Matt Allen would have made the FG because: A. he is a crappy-assed kicker and B. the long snapper already blew two snaps. The Cleveland Browns and the Oakland Raiders had their seasons surely ended on a very-bad call, and the front office for the NFL does nothing. The New York Giants, had they gotten the appropriate call, MIGHT have won the game, but that is a very big "might have". The Browns were driving furiously towards the endzone and wouldn't have been stopped by the Jags. All the Raiders needed to do was kneel on the ball 3 times and the game is over. But this topic isnt about that.

Now this sounds weird, but I feel for the San Francisco 49ers and their fans. The Niners won that game fair and square. They made a terrific comeback that excited even me. Also, when you blow a 24-point lead with only about 20 minutes to play in the game like the Giants did, you don't deserve to win. Either the NFL has something against the bay area, or they are just madly in love with the New York Giants, and maybe the Jets (there hasn't really been an incident that the NFL has stepped in on their side by my memory). Remember, this is coming from a guy who absolutely DETESTS the San Francisco 49ers...

What do you think about the call in the Browns/Cheifts game where Rudd threw his helmet off at the end of the play?

Just wondering

Thats a good one too inxane. There is no way that that should have cost the Browns the game. Oh, and just because I am defending the Browns, dont mix me up to be a fan of theirs, they have just gotten dicked by the league a lot.

This is a great post, Infamous, and I agree totally; during that Patriots game, I was REALLY surprised by the referee's call, and (me being an NE fan), nearly threw the television at the wall. It makes me so mad sometimes, which is the only downlisde for sports; sports are run by officials, and thus, they favor a team more sometimes

I understand that the position of being a referee is a very hard job indeed, and you have to make calls that are going to piss a lot of people off. But, as they say, if you can't take the heat, then get out of the kitchen. Obviously these guys can take the heat however.

The New England/Oakland call was right. The replay agreed with what the rule states. It dosen't matter if was trying to throw it or not.

I don't think the league has a bias against anyone. They always announce when the refs blew a call. Most of time no hears about it because no one really cares. A few years agot the Redskins were playing the Cardinals and the Skins needed to win to get in the playoffs. At the end of the game Arizona needs a field goal to win. They miss it, but they call holding on Ken Harvey the Cardnials get another shot and win. Few days later the league apoligezes. They have people who review everything that goes on. People just don't hear about it.

To say the league favors one area over another is rediculous. It is questioning the integrety of the NFL.

No, if the entire organization is in New York, obviously there will always be a favoring team, most likely New York's team.
