Cool Web Search Trojan
Okay this bitch is the most annoying virus ever. I got it....But didnt know what it was till I ran spybot and Ad-aware. but the problem with ad-aware and Spybot is that they find it, but are unable to completely remove it. Ad-aware just gets stuck in the middle. And spybot removes, but then it doesnt have any effect.
Now the things that you might see if you are infected by this stupid virus, is your homepage will be automatically switched to about:blank, and some sites will automatically be redirected to about:blank. When it does that, you arent able to access those pages...Stuff like hotmail.com, and m-w.com. The thing is, you cant just change the homepage and hope it will go away, because just as soon as you restart IE, it will come back again. And plus, its saved on your hard drive, so you dont need to be on the internet.
The solution to this problem (That I found out), is this program called CWShredder. I dont know any links, its free. To download it, just search for "CWShredder" on google, and youll get download links. Just close IE and scan with CWShredder and it will remove all the CWS related pages and fix your registry while its at it.
Now, to prevent re-infection, what you have to do is instructed in CWShredder, after your first Scan/fix, it will tell you how to prevent it. From what I remember, you had to download a program, and remove Microsoft Java JM for some reason and download the newest Java, since its not supported...Youll figure it out.
