How do I prepare a steak?
I have a day off tomorrow and would like to prepare a meal for my wife and I, for when she comes home in the evening. I don't really cook, usually, and have not cooked anything in the two years I have been in the States.
What I'd like to prepare for her, is a nice juicy steak. What I'll serve with it, I already have figured and planned out, but the steak...now that's the tough part for me. See, I have never prepared a steak. I don't have a grill, just an oven. I don't know how you are supposed to "cook" a steak. I don't even know so much as what kind of meat a steak is. Is it pork, beef, what? Cow, pig? German shepherd?
Anyways, any tips are welcome. I took a quick look at the steaks at the local supermarket, and was very confused. Marinated? What the hell is that? How does that taste different from non-marinated? Furthermore, is there a steak that's a bit "fancier" as in has more meat than lard to it?
Any serious tips are welcome. Help poor ol' Core score some ass.

Marinated is sort of like an added flavor. It's soaked into something. For example, I eat fish marinated in lemon. Very good.
I'm not the kind of person to ask about meat though. I work at a supermarket and whenever I have to do anything with meat I'm clueless.

I'm pretty sure steak, technically speaking, doesn't have to be of a specific animal, but it's almost always beef, which is steer, bull, ox, or cow.
Go go dictionary.com.

How to cook a steak?
Slap a few steaks on the BBQ mate, and turn them every now and then, if you dont have a BBQ then use a fry pan, if you dont have one of them use a big pot,pan thing over your hotplates. I've never heard of a steak cooked in an oven, you can heat the oven to a hottish temperature to keep them hot once you've cooked them though...

OVEN COOKED SMOTHERED STEAK
2 lbs. round steak
1 c. flour
1 onion, sliced
1 c. cooking oil
1 can cream of mushroom soup
Seasoning salt, salt, and pepper to taste
Cut steak into serving pieces. Coat with flour, seasoning salt, and black pepper. Brown on both sides. Place in baking dish, pouring mushroom soup on top, then top with sliced onions. Drain excess oil from skillet in which steak was browned. Make roux with flour and seasoning salt; brown. Add water; do not boil. Pour over steak and cover with foil. Cook in 400 degree oven for 1 hour.

A Romantic Dinner for Two.
Just fine. Although I can't afford the steaks that my wife's boss had flown in special from somewhere up north. She was pretty nuts about those.
The meat guy at the meat market told me to just broil it in a pan, gave me some good tips.
Anyways...
Two ribeyes, a bottle of Marlot, some fresh buns, baked potatos, cole slaw and potato salad (odd choices maybe, but I can never remember which veggies she likes). And of course a red, apple-scented candle.
She: "Steak? ...Meh."
She's out getting takeout from Chili's right now. We'll probably nuke and chow down the steaks tomorrow at some point.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna open that bottle of wine and get shitfaced.
