Default AOM Titans network play

Our setup:

Alice is at one house connected to the Internet on a cable modem. The
cable modem supports her home network through a wireless
router-hub-firewall. Its the standard Linksys-type of thing that you
might purchase at any computer store.

Bob has an identical setup in another state. Both systems are
configured the same way:

1. Copy the existing Titans shortcut. Modify the newly created
shortcut. The Target line should read as one line:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology\aomx.exe"
OverrideAddress="66.171.251.142"

Notice the addition of OverrideAddress. Be certain your shortcut is
pointing to the proper executable on your machine, your path may vary.
The OverrideAddress specified MUST be the IP address of the router as
it appears on the Internet. This address can be found by looking at
the STATUS page of your router, probably located through your browser
at http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1.

2. Forward the incoming ports on your router to the machine you are
playing at. On my system, I log into my router (see addresses above)
and click on Advanced -> Port Forwarding. I set the range of ports
2299-2400 to forward UDP to the game machine (at intranet local address
192.1.0.100). Be sure that the local machine address is correct. I
found the local address through the DOS prompt with the command
"ipconfig".

Once both machine are configured as above, Alice can see Bob's games
with DirectIP connection and visa versa. Alice WILL have to specify
the address of Bob's router when searching for a game from Titans (or
AOM.)

The game will give you a nice error message if your versions are
different.

Good luck.

Randall

Default Re: AOM Titans network play

Excellent post! I'll pass this on in reply to another poster's
question about AoM LAN play which was posted recently. :-)
