So, a few days ago...I wanted to play Worms. I got World Party, installed, started. Just as the main screen comes up I get sent back to the Desktop. Armageddon, wouldn't start any gameplay. 3D, I didn't feel like. So, I think I'd play it on the dreamcast. I took it out of the box, hooked it up. Then I noticed my PS2 power cable fit in. So, I stuck in the rear. I turned it on, put a game in. Everything seemed fine for the first 5 minutes. I was fixing the date and stuff. Then BOOM !! I heard a sound like a train stopping, not as loud though , smoke came out of every fricking hole on the console. It smelled like hell, and kept coming out. It seems I failed to notice, the DreamCast cable has an adapter, the PS2 cable doesn't. What's weird is that after I used the right cable it worked. Although I had a hard time starting my BootUpDisk for bootlegs. It doens't stop spinning when it should. Some other games didn't work either. So, I was stuck playing Soul Calibur a little and putting the system back in the box. Did any of of you ever have a DreamCast ? Share you memories and favorite games here.
My favorite games would be: Shenmue I & II (Some of the best games EVER), Sonic, Soul Calibur, Grandia II, Powerstone 2, and others that I can't recall. I remember when I first got this. I had two original games and a demo disc. Soul Calibur & Dead Or Alive 2, ...oh and Shenmue I too. The graphics were so cool back then. Especially in Sonic, it was top of the line. Now it's at the bottom of my Shelf.

Oh yea, and I dont own a dreamcast, but I used to play it alot at my friends house.

It's fifth anniversary was a few days ago. 9/9/99- 9/9/04.

I played Ikaruga, Border Down and Jet Grind Radio to celebrate. I also played some Phantasy Star Online on Schthack's unoffical server.

Damn, the DC was probably the best console ever. It's games were so ingenious, and you'd never find them on other consoles. It's a shame it never made it into the mainstream. But hell, the mainstream never accepts anything that's good.

Yeah, true. I played Phantasy Star then too. I think it's on X Box now with a new part coming out. So is Jet Grind Radio. Get that and as well as Shenmue II if you have an X Box. Those games hold up even today, years after release. And now there's Shenmue Online coming. But I think there will be a part III sometime in the future. Atleast I hope so. Btw, did any of you notice how Soul Calibur on DC is much more fun than part 2 ?? It's even easier on the eyes, part 2 seems to have alot of color saturation or something.

Jet Grind Radio was much better than Jet Set Radio Future. It was may more challenging.

PSO episode I and II are availiable on Xbox and Gamecube, but you have to pay to play online.

It's free on DC.

PSO III is Gamecube only.

PSU (Phantasy Star Universe) doesn't have a set console yet.

I imported Shenmue 2 for Dreamcast. I have the UK verrsion with Japanese Speech and English subtitles. Since it's on DC, I get to keep all my items from the first game.Not that I'm a fan of Shenmue. It's pace is way too slow.



I agree with you on Soul Calibur. The gameplay is more balanced and overal just more fun than Soul Calibur II. Also, they toned the effect way down in SCII, which as lame. The character proportions are messed up in SCII as well. Why is Astaroth so short, and Nightmare's legs so small? Characters had better proportions in SC1 (Astaroth looked like a freaking giant and Nightmare/Seigfried actually looked like his legs could support his upper body).

If you still have your DC games, I suggest you buy annother DC. They're only $10-$15 used at Gamestop/EB games.

I never tried the X Box version, since I don't have the console.
You gotta be kidding, when I played PSO long time ago I had to pay !!!
And I guess Shemue can be slow for some people, it is better in Japanese though. The english voice acting is sub-par, and as far as I know only on X Box.
Really ?? Uhhh, I don't live in the states man. I don't know how much it is here, but I suppose it is the same. It's games are hard to get these days, though. I'll try looking for it anyway, especially Shenmue II. The original should be cheap, mine got stuck on Disc 3 and there's no way I'm waiting til I get an X Box to finish it.
Also, I remember spending 25+ hours on Soul Calibur and it's missions. I didn't get Inferno, they say leave the game on for 20 hours and he will appear. As for part 2, I played less then 3 or even 2 hours.
Btw, check out the Hot New Trailers !!! thread I made here, look for the Shenmue Online trailer. It seems very interesting. Though I doubt it's part three. Plus, part 2 had the events which take place on the boat omitted...So part 3 must be somewhere down the line.

PSO version I for DC was free. Version II was pay to play.

Shenmue II was released in Europe and Japan on Dreamcast. It's on Xbox in the US. I have the European DC version of Shenmue 2.

Shenmue Online will be released in China only, and I'm not interested in it anyway.

I had version two of PSO, so I had to pay. As for Shenmue II I guess I have the European version.
